Life Cycle in (stop) Motion

Northeast Hamilton, like many Iowa schools, had several early outs due to heat early in the year. I had the opportunity to come in on one of those afternoons and do a stop motion “playground”. Using the iMotion app and tons of props from my own kids’ toy boxes and the teachers’ classrooms, we spent the day learning the app and brainstorming classroom applications.

Check out how Mrs. Schimp’s first grade class applied our stop motion lesson to their study of life cycles! They took pictures each day and were able to, over time, create a time lapse video of a caterpillar and its growth compared to a dime, then into a cocoon, and finally into a butterfly!
