Creating a positive digital footprint requires one to make a positive contribution. I make a conscientious effort to create a positive footprint. I want students to be intentional in creating their positive footprint.
Many students have a footprint-a footprint that was made for them not by them. Parents share information about their children on social media sites like Facebook and Instagram posting pictures from birth commenting on milestones, frustrations, and celebrations. Parents are creating their child’s digital footprint. While I do not do it often, I have tweeted about my children. People that read those tweets have an impression of my children, and perhaps that impression will be the only impression. I have to be conscientious about the digital footprint I am making for others including my children.
Whether we are parents posting our child’s latest accomplishment, or an educator sharing our students’ work-what we say, how we say it, where we say it…it leaves a mark.
