Challenge: 4 Variations of the Same #nationalpoetrymonth

Processing through poetry provides insight. Poetry breaks rules. My thoughts can run into one another as people do in a crowded shopping center. My sentences can really be phrases joined by dashes and what ifs and conjunctions and semicolons and…Words are not confined by subject and verb placement. They live where they choose to live.

But what if I force my thoughts into a formula? After my thinking spills onto a page in my favorite free verse fashion, can I rearrange the original to create something new? This is my challenge. I am writing the same poem over…I am writing it over differently. I will continue to add to this post the variations of my poem as I work to fit my untamed clauses into a cell.

POEM VERSION 1 (free verse) 4/14
born from a quest
illuminating passion
woven understanding
a life serving is honorable
driven by an innate desire
to make better, to do better, to be better
not in this world, but for this world
a journey that saves and protects
instills and empowers
inspires and creates

POEM VERSION 2 (sonnet) 4/15
illuminating passion birthing quest
woven sweetly, ornate. understanding
a life serving is honorably blest
by relentless desire expanding

with want to make, to be better, weaving
our passing journey to save and protect
to be, to do better all believing
difference can be made; cause can affect

fueling lamplight burning inspiration
not extinguished by a system’s education

POEM VERSION 3 (double etheree) 4/16
soul
serving
sharing light
believing this
can/should be better
a determined journey
hope fueling this urgency
before an archaic system
darkens the promise of their potential
driven by relentless desire to
ignite imagination’s blue fire
focusing on contribution
converging play and passion
for a purpose greater
than a test we take
a test we give
to inspire
learning
quest

POEM VERSOIN 4 (villanelle) 4/17
must be more about all that matters in this world we live, a quest, a desire
and all that matters to our students, matters more than a traditional test
a hope calling for meaningful and engaging, inspiration and play, learning igniting a fire

a system supporting growth, a light encompassing the entire
empowering contribution, reaching all, in transformation we must invest
must be more about all that matters in this world we live, a quest, a desire

a hope calling for meaningful and engaging, inspiration and play, learning igniting a fire
problem finding, with opportunity to provide solution, learning given as a gift, this we assess
encouraging passion combined with talent and purpose helping students reach what they aspire

enthusiastic in a mission, now is the time, and there is no time to tire
we must redefine and redesign including avenues for choice, opportunity to express
must be more about all that matters in this world we live, a quest, a desire

no more waiting, soul designed honoring possibility is what we require
lifting the weight of punitive failure, the fear suppressed
a hope calling for meaningful and engaging, inspiration and play, learning igniting a fire

more than a dream, more than a what if, more than a hope, it is what we aspire
innovation spreads, creativity drives progress
must be more about all that matters in this world we live, a quest, a desire
a hope calling for meaningful and engaging, inspiration and play, learning igniting a fire
