Tuesday evening, I guest moderated #ELAchat. The chat occurs the first and last Tuesday of each month. Friend and valued member of my PLN, Joy Kirr, invited me to lead the evening chat. The Storify of the chat can be found HERE. Educators from around the country gathered at 7:00 PM CST on Twitter to chat about literacy. The list of questions I asked during the chat:
Q1: Necessary skills for readers & writers? What must we teach to help our students be prepared for right now, today, & tomorrow? #ELAchat
Q2a: Think about your own experience…what writing are you most proud of, why? What is your most powerful reading experience? #ELAchat
Q2b: Considering our memorable experiences…How are you creating community of readers & writers that celebrates & shares? #ELAchat
Q3: What are your go-to digital technologies you are using to support reading? Writing? (RSS Feeds? Websites?) #ELAchat
Q4: If we were fearless/serious about supporting literacy for all students, what would we STOP doing, what would we START doing? #ELAchat
Q5: What are you doing to foster a love of literacy? To help sustain the love of literacy? To revive a love of literacy? #ELAchat
Q6a:How can you or how have you helped your readers and writers connect with readers and writers outside of your classroom? #ELAchat
Q6b: How can you or have you helped your readers and writers write with the world, read with the world? Why is this beneficial? #ELAchat
Q6c: How can you or how have you helped your readers and writers write and read for the world? Service? Contribution? #ELAchat
#LASTWORD: What can you do this week to help foster a love of literacy, and help students see purpose in writing and reading? #ELAchat
The conversation was powerful. With each Twitter chat I participate in, with each insight I gain because of my participation I am reminded of the value in the connection. Feel free to utilize the discussion questions I created to begin dialogue about connected readers and connected writers.
FYI: I co-organize #1to1techat with @MaineSchoolTech. Feel free to join us on Wednesdays, 8PM CST.
