Don’t just show process, appreciate process

Don’t just show process, appreciate process

Sometimes you can be having20160204_211816 the most random or generic conversation, and somebody says something that hits you like a ton of bricks. My sister is learning to crochet, and making her first scarf. First she asked me to pretend to be super excited and impressed when I get to her house on Sunday (Go Peyton!). Then she sent me a picture. The conversation that followed really struck me is one that I hope I can have with my kids, I hope my kids’ teachers are having with them, and I hope is occurring in classrooms all over the nation.

“…you can totally see where I finally got the hang of it. I was going to unravel it and start over right, but I kinda liked seeing my learning progress.”

Are we having conversations that encourage kids to not only SHOW the learning process, but appreciate the learning process? Are we appreciating the progression of knowledge and skill? There’s beauty in the journey. Don’t miss it.
